FAQ ABOUT OUR HONOLULU PHYSICAL THERAPY
Will physical therapy hurt?
At Doctors of Waikiki, we understand that the thought of physical therapy can be daunting, especially if you’re worried about pain. While some discomfort is normal during physical therapy sessions, it’s typically a sign that your body is working to heal and strengthen. Our physical therapists are trained to ensure your comfort and will adjust your treatment plan as needed to minimize pain. The goal is to improve function and reduce pain in the long term. Communication is key, so always let your therapist know if you’re experiencing significant discomfort. Remember, your safety and well-being are our top priorities, and we strive to make your physical therapy experience as positive as possible.
How much does physical therapy cost?
The cost of physiotherapy at Doctors of Waikiki varies depending on the specific treatment plan and duration. On average, physical therapy sessions can range from $75 to $150 per session. Many insurance plans cover physical therapy, but coverage can differ widely. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your benefits and any out-of-pocket costs. For those without insurance, we offer competitive pricing and payment plans to make therapy accessible. Our billing department is also available to answer any questions and help you navigate your payment options. Ensuring that you receive the necessary care without financial stress is a priority for us.
How often will I need to go to physical therapy?
The frequency of your physical therapy visits at Doctors of Waikiki will depend on your specific condition and treatment goals. Typically, patients start with sessions two to three times per week. The frequency may decrease as you progress based on your improvement and the therapist’s recommendations. Each treatment plan is personalized, and your physiotherapist will work with you to determine the best schedule to achieve optimal results. Consistency is key in physiotherapy, and regular attendance can significantly enhance your recovery and help you meet your health goals faster. We are committed to providing flexible scheduling to accommodate your needs.
What will physical therapy consist of?
Physical therapy at Doctors of Waikiki is tailored to each patient’s unique needs and may include a combination of exercises, manual therapy, education, and modalities such as heat, ice, or electrical stimulation. Initial sessions involve an assessment of your condition and the development of a customized treatment plan. Exercises may focus on improving strength, flexibility, balance, and range of motion. Manual therapy techniques, such as massage or joint mobilization, can help reduce pain and improve function. Education is also a critical component, as we provide guidance on posture, ergonomics, and activities to support your recovery. Our comprehensive approach ensures you receive holistic care.
Can physical therapy help with back pain?
Yes, physiotherapy can be highly effective in treating back pain. At Doctors of Waikiki, our physiotherapists are skilled in identifying the underlying causes of back pain and developing targeted treatment plans. Therapy may include exercises to strengthen the core muscles, improve flexibility, and enhance posture. Manual therapy techniques can help alleviate pain and restore mobility. Additionally, our therapists provide education on proper body mechanics and ergonomics to prevent future injuries. Whether your back pain is due to an injury, chronic condition, or post-surgical recovery, our goal is to reduce your pain and improve your quality of life through personalized physical therapy.

VESTIBULAR BALANCE PHYSICAL THERAPY
Youhei is a certified vestibular therapist who treats dizziness, balance problems, and issues related to vertigo (such as BPPV or Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). Through injury or overuse, muscles we normally aren’t aware of can weaken or even over-strengthen in an imbalanced way. Most people don’t realize how much automatic musculoskeletal- and nervous-system activity goes on for our brains to maintain an effortless sense of balance – until we lose it! Patients learn moderately challenging yet simple exercises to condition muscle groups relied on by the vestibular system to automatically maintain balance. With Imoto’s Vestibular Balance Therapy, you can confidently restore yourself to a state of easy, natural balance.
PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR ATHLETES
When acute injuries arise and keep athletes from doing what they love, Youhei guides them through activity-specific sequences suited to their particular conditions and needs. Exactly which sequence is right for each patient is determined through collaborative sessions, in which Dr. Imoto designs the most appropriate protocol for one’s particular injuries. With a mind towards proactivity and injury prevention, Youhei’s personalized Physical Therapy for Athletes gives them the resources they need to return to their full potential and return to the activities that give them and their friends joy.
POST-OP PHYSICAL THERAPY

If you or your loved one is facing surgery (or recently have), ask how Imoto Mobile’s Post-op Therapy helps patients restore themselves to the healthiest pre-op state possible.
