For Urgent but Not Life-Threatening Treatment

Going to an urgent care clinic is different from going to the emergency room or a regularly scheduled wellness exam. An urgent care appointment falls on the spectrum somewhere between a primary care checkup and the need for the ER. How do you know if you need to go to urgent care or ER? Here are some tips:

  • If you have an injury that is serious but not life-threatening, such as a mild concussion or broken bone, go to urgent care.
  • If you are ill but not life-threatening, and you need to see a medical professional sooner than your next scheduled visit, you may go to urgent care.
  • If you have a broken bone that sticks out of the skin, go to the emergency room.
  • If you are experiencing a major medical emergency such as chest pain, severe headache, bleeding that does not stop, or severe vomiting, go to the emergency room.
  • If your non-life-threatening emergency is during normal clinic hours, try urgent care first.

Another thing to remember about urgent care is that you do not always see a doctor for care. Your visit may be with a nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant instead. An NP and PA can still prescribe care and medication when needed.

Once your urgent care visit is complete, our medical professional will likely recommend that you follow up with your primary care physician at an appropriate time.

If you are unsure if your visit requires urgent care or emergency services, call us to find out. It is better to go to a location that can immediately treat your condition. Keep in mind that an urgent care clinic does not have the same equipment as an emergency room.

Various Medical Service Options

At our doctors’ urgent care clinic in Waikiki, you will find the same services that you receive from your primary care physician. We can help you with any of the following and more:

  • Digital X-ray: Our digital X-ray services mean lower radiation exposure. They also allow us to diagnose and plan treatment for a variety of issues, such as broken bones.
  • Immunization: We offer immunizations at our clinic even without a regular appointment. Contact us to ask about a vaccine you may be looking for.
  • Laboratory: We have an on-site laboratory for faster turnaround times for testing. When you need answers to your health troubles, our team will work hard to get them for you as soon as possible.
  • Pharmacy: If your diagnosis and treatment plan require a prescription, we have a pharmacy in our clinic, so you can walk out the door with the medication you need.
  • WellnessWe also have a variety of wellness services that may not necessarily require an urgent care visit, including massage, acupuncture, and physical therapy.

If you are looking for a specific type of service, please call us and find out if we can meet your needs. Our team is happy to let you know if the hospital or another option may be better for your unique situation.

Do you need to bring your child in for a visit or to accompany you? We have a Kids Corner to help keep your young ones entertained. Remember to get a quick photo with Bandii, our mascot, before you head out the door.
